INFORMATIC ENGINEERING

Informatics engineering

Informatics engineering is the direct translation from many southern European languages of an engineering discipline most commonly known in English as (electronic and) computer engineering.
In Portugal and other countries however informatics engineering (sometimes also referred as informatics and computers engineering) refers strictly to computer science whereas electrotechnical and computers engineering refers to computer engineering
Although between Engineering and Science has a number of different senses, but in terms of understanding of Information and Computer Science, until recently in Indonesia in particular, has the outline of the same reference. Thus the terminology of Information in the reference documents interpreted the same as Computer Science (Computer Science).
Informatics technically refers to the terminology of computing. Simple notion of computing itself is all the technical things that involve the use of computers. Among the activities and understanding of computing according to documents Computing Curricula 2005 (CC 2005) is:

* Designing and building hardware and software systems for any of a wide range of purposes.

* Processing, structuring and managing Various Kinds of information.

* Doing scientific studies using computers.

* Making computer systems behave intelligently.

* Creating and using communications and entertainment media.

* Finding and gathering information relevant to any particular purpose.
Based on the above understanding, the field of informatics engineering study covers a wide area. With the capabilities it has, then the informatics engineering graduates are expected to have the ability to handle the field work include:

* Design and implementation of software (Software). Informatics engineering graduates have skills in terms of programming tasks and supervise the activities of programming with the ability to perform various technical approaches to solve programming problems.

* Provide solutions to optimize the use of computers in various aspects of social life. In line with the increasingly wide use of computers, a number of new ways to implement the use of computers and computer capabilities to help optimize the life of society is a challenge for informatics engineering graduates.

* Provide effective solutions to various computational problems. In line with the increasing use of computers in society, then the number of demands to improve the computer capabilities in terms of efficiency, speed, size, and various computational techniques are alternative areas of land development engineering graduate informatics capabilities.

To understand it all then, the basic skills of higher education prepared by informatics techniques are:

1. A good understanding of things that are the essence and fundamentals of computer science disciplines, either in theory or aplikas

2. Good programming skills, in terms of concept or skill. At least there are 3 aspects that must be owned, that is a good understanding of the basic rules of programming. Understanding of algorithms and data structures implement them into the software used

3. Capabilities associated with software engineering technologies that can ensure the resulting application is reliable, robust and in accordance with user requirements.

4. Understanding with both the capabilities and limitations of computer technology (software, hardware and networking), includes the ability in terms of: Knowledge of what can and can not be done by computer technology terbaru.Memahami limitations of computing processes and solutions to overcome these limitations by a period to technological improvements will come

5. Understand the impact on the spread of computer technology for individuals, organizations and society.

6. Understand well the concept of lifecycle including characters in each phase ((planning, development, deployment, and evolution), the implications of the development of all aspects of computer systems (hardware, software and computer-human interaction) and the relationship between quality and lifecycle management.

7. Good understanding of basic concepts of the two aspects of the process, the process associated with computing, especially program execution and system operation. Processes associated with professional activity, especially the relationship between product quality and distribution.

8. Having insight on advanced topics for understanding the latest developments of the field being studied.

9. Having the ability in terms of interpersonal skills through group interactions discussions, presentations, projects, interviews, literature studies.

10. Could connect between the theory and skills learned through case studies encountered in real life.

11. Can demonstrate the ability of individuals to integrate the various elements of the college experience through a project, from design, implementation and final presentation.
